In 2004, I had been living in Colombia for a couple of years and I went home to Atlanta for a few months to spend time with my family. I reconnected with my friend Duane who was a pastor and the director of the personal training department at LA Fitness.
The first question he asked when he saw me was “Why did God bring me back to see him?” I said brother, things got so rough with the spiritual battle I was in and I needed more faith. He said, o.k let’s do a Bible Study on the father of faith, Abraham. I said, great! Let’s do it!
After about a few weeks, Duane told me to ask God what my purpose was. I went home after our Bible Study session and in prayer I asked God what my purpose was. Then I took a nap.
I had a lucid dream where I saw myself in a fitness club on the second floor and I saw several people working out on weight assisted machines. I walked down to the first floor of the club and had a conversation with a lady about faith. All of a sudden, I saw a huge sheep walking around the first floor and it was the size of a cow. I turned to the lady I was having the conversation with and I asked why there was a sheep walking around, because it was completely out of place.
Then I heard a knock on the main door of the club and I went to answer it. It was a familiar face from years ago when I was in school and I asked, “What are you doing here?” He didn’t answer and stepped back away from the door. He opened his hand and he had a red orb and tossed it on the inside of the building.
I looked at the sky and it turned blood red. A storm broke out and the trees outside in the parking lot were blowing back and forth. Then I saw an angel in the sky that looked 10 feet tall with its wings outstretched and the storm subsided.
The angel flew down to the entrance of the club where I was and the door was completely damaged from the storm. I said to the angel, “The door is completely destroyed, could you please help me fix this?” He then blew on the door and it was fixed. I said thank you very much for helping me with this Raphael!
When I woke up from the dream, I had no idea what it meant and I thought the only one who I could tell about it was Duane. So, I got dressed and went back to LA FITNESS and found Duane. I told him about the dream and he said that he was no interpreter of dreams, but here’s what it means. He then went into an explanation of the symbols from my dream.
When Jesus mentions sheep in the Bible, He is describing:
- People who belong to Him
- Those who recognize His voice
- Humanity’s need for guidance
- The rescued and restored
- The faithful who live out love
To be called His sheep means: You are known. You are protected. You are guided. You are pursued when lost.
The blood red sky is symbolic of spiritual warfare.
Spiritual warfare is:
- The unseen struggle between good and evil
- The battle for your thoughts, faith, and obedience
- The tension between your old nature and your renewed identity
It’s recognizing that: Your life has spiritual significance. Your decisions matter. And resistance often increases when you move toward purpose.
The angel is the Archangel Raphael. Raphael appears prominently in the Book of Tobit, which is included in:
- Catholic Bibles
- Eastern Orthodox Bibles
But not included in most Protestant Bibles.
In Tobit, Raphael:
- Disguises himself as a human traveler named Azariah
- Guides Tobit’s son, Tobias, on a journey
- Helps him find a wife
- Drives away a demon afflicting her
- Heals Tobit’s blindness
At the end, Raphael reveals himself as:
“I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand and serve before the Glory of the Lord.” — Tobit 12:15
Because of this story, Raphael became associated with:
- Healing
- Marriage
- Protection
- Divine appointment
What God foretold in my dream was that he would use me to create a safe world-wide dating community where faith-led fitness oriented athletes, entrepreneurs, entertainers and leaders could meet each other. That community is called SPIRITLINC.
