Robin Sharma said that “the mind is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master”. I don’t fully agree!
Our minds are naturally hardwired for negativity. Psychologists call this the negativity bias. What does this mean? It means we often remember negative situations more so than positive ones. It means we often expect the worst case situation to happen. I certainly suffered from this big time. Countless times have I thought things like “OMG, what if I will mess up?!”
This also means that the thoughts we have, both the ones we are aware of, as well as the ones we’re not aware of, are generally negative. And once these negative thoughts start repeating themselves, they can get us stuck in a cycle and lead us spiraling downwards.
But – this all depends on whether and how you train your mind, if you ask me.
A lot of what we experience in life depends on our reactions to people, situations, and changes. And how we react (or rather, respond) to all these people, situations, and changes, depends on how much awareness and consciousness we bring in. Which is a choice!
You can see your mind as a muscle. And just like any other workout, or just like any other habit, your mind can be trained. I’m not saying it’ll be easy, but – it is possible! And definitely worth it.
When we cultivate more awareness, we invite more inner peace and inner connection to flow in, and because of which we automatically experience more positive energy on a daily basis.
This doesn’t mean all of your days will feel great all the time :)⠀
It means you’ll develop your “tool box” which allows you to step out of a funk or low mood a lot faster and more sustainably. I’m saying “step” out of it, as it’s an action to undertake. ⠀
It means, you don’t get “stuck” in “it” for a prolonged time anymore. It won’t take as long as it used to anymore to go through it, break out of it, shed it. 🤯⠀
Thinking a negative, stressful thought increases cortisol levels (stress hormone) in your nervous system. On the other hand, thinking positive thoughts increases serotonin (happy hormone) in your body. ⠀
It is up to you!⠀
