Carol Banens’ expertise comes from her personal experience with loss. The death of her husband six years ago sent her on a journey from deep grief to a place of gratitude and joy. This loss led her to become a Transformational Life Coach, a Certified Grief Educator, and a Grief to Gratitude Coach.

Carol inspires people to integrate their grief into their life through speaking and coaching people to implement her C.H.O.O.S.E method. She is also the author of her book Kintsugi Your Heart: The Art of Living with Grief.

She leads by example, helping others to find a life of meaning after loss.

Q How long does it take to move through my grief?

Unfortunately there is no timeline. Each person's grief is unique and they'll process it in their own time. This depends on multiple factors: how your loved one died, your relationship, previous experience with grief, your mental and physical health and the support you have available.

Q Will I go through each stage of grief?

These stages were actually not written for grievers but for the terminally ill. So, you may go through some of the stages, but it won't be in any particular order... and if you miss some of them it doesn't mean you are doing your grief 'wrong'!

Q Will I ever go back to 'normal'?

No, you won't go back to your old normal. Normal for you will look different. Grief changes how you feel about yourself, your role, and your future plans. Normal will be different, maybe not what you wanted... but it can still be good.

Q How do you help people in grief?

Each person is different and requires personalized support. As we navigate this together, my clients learn how to integrate grief into their life but not allow it to define them. We work on self discovery and figuring out what the future can look like, and that grief can be carried along with them AND still leave space for joy and happiness.

Finding closure and acceptance

5.0/ 5

I recently asked Carol to help me with the final “remnants” of grief after my Dad’s death back in 2022. I’d been able to work on lots of things myself, but I knew that I needed outside help too. Not only did Carol help me find peace with the feelings I had around Dad’s death. She enabled me to see how I’d also been holding onto grief for events that happened to me as a teenager and young adult. We worked on these together and I found closure and acceptance, together with self-forgiveness. I now feel safe and strong inside, and this is having a positive impact on all aspects of my life. If you’re looking for a kind, understanding grief coach, talk to Carol!
