1) No matter how difficult the journey may feel at times it is important to remember that there is a
beginning and an ending to everything.
2)No matter how immobilised you may feel, its all about the willingness to take the first step to
change, no matter how small. each step forward will bring you closer to change.
3) Change takes effort, discipline and commitment and sometimes a fair bit of sweat. It is not simply
given to us on a plate.
4)Identify what tools you need to help you on your way, whether it is good nutrition, learning to
manage your stress, depression and anxiety.
5) Others may run with you and encourage you, but at the end of a day you alone are responsible for
putting one foot in front of the other.
6) On the way you may encourage hills and obstacles. Stay focused on the journey, on the small
steps and remember that you were trained to go well beyond your comfort zone. The wiring is still
there to draw on.
7)As you make change, don’t always stay within your safety zone. Push yourself to extend your
limits. Remember that the changes you want for yourself lie beyond your field of comfort. Focus
your will and determination on the ability to sustain discomfort.
8) The more you fully engage in your commitment to change, the easier and emotionally and
psychologically fitter you will become at sustaining the rigours of the journey.
9) Never give up. Rather stop at times to take a breath and regroup. Pace yourself. Going backwards
is not an option.
10) Initially, the resources you carry to support you on your journey may feel overwhelming,
however, as you strengthen and as you use them, the load becomes lighter.
11) Identify achievable goals-start with a half kilometre goal and then build up slowly. You’ll be
surprised at what you are capable of doing, no matter how old, fit or emotionally fragile you feel.
12) Take time on the way to enjoy the sights. Its not all hard work. Pay attention to the positives in
your life and enjoy the journey. Change and transformation without a good laugh every now and
then can leave you discouraged.
